Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree – How to get to Darklight Catacombs

Josh Wise

In Shadow of the Erdtree, some areas are pretty difficult to get to – just like in the Elden Ring main game. It’s worth trying to get to as many areas as possible in Shadow of the Erdtree, because of the Scadutree Fragments. These are the collectibles that let you power up, because normal levelling doesn’t work the same way as it does in the main game. Check out our other guides on How to get to the Cerulean Coast and How to get to Scadu Altus by skipping Castle Ensis in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

Also, there is a load of other stuff, outside of the fragments, that you want to get. The Darklight Catacombs is just such a place, and you need to go through here to get to Abyssal Woods, which is an area that does have Scadutree Fragments.

How to get to the Darklight Catacombs in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

First things first, you want to start out at the Castle Watering Hole Site of Grace. To find out how to get to this Site of Grace, you need to find the Hidden Coffin. Check out our guide on How to find the hidden coffin in the Shadow Keep to get there.

Start here, hop onto Torrent, and ride forth, but beware of the Furnace Golem. You’re in an area where there are a load of dead Furnace Golems, and you get lulled into a false sense of security. One of them suddenly gets up, however, so unless you fancy a big old showdown, just keep on galloping.

You want to stick to the left, and make your way down the waterfall. You will find the Recluses’ River Upstream Site of Grace on your left, so you can stop and save on your way.

Keep following this cliff-side path, and you will come to a point where you have to leap across to the right-hand side. Double-jump your way over there and keep following this path as it winds around to the right.

Hop down to the next Site of Grace, the Recluses’ River Downstream, and stop and save. There are a number of little insectoid enemies buzzing around in this area; they aren’t big threats, but they do pounce at you, and if you’re not careful then you can fall off the ledges here.

Now continue on and hop down, down, and down some more. Be careful here, because if you’re too speedy then you can do yourself some harm. Carefully make your way down, ledge by ledge, avoiding fall damage.

You will arrive in a valley scattered with stone coffins, and you want to stick the left side and hug the cliff face. Keep an eye out for a pair of white flames, and a doorway in the side of this cliff. This is the entrance you want.

This is the entrance to the Darklight Catacombs, congratulations. Your reward is dark and dank dungeon filled with nastiness – you love it!
