Introduction:
Welcome to Portal 2, the highly anticipated sequel to 2007's Game of the Year, developed by VALVE. With more environment interaction, and a brand new Co-op system, Portal 2 will keep you on your toes from start to finish, and even after that. Valve has kept it's promise and made the game more challenging, more fun, and even more hilarious. Now sit down and get ready to feel that sense of accomplishment again, and expect to be laughing the whole way through.

Breakdown:
This game is split up into two sections: Single Player and Co-Op. There are no collectible achievements, only level specific achievements, story related achievements and a few misc achievements. You will only need 1 playthrough for each Single Player and Co-Op, with a few Course/Chamber replays for Co-Op.

Step 1: Playthrough on Single Player
There is no difficulty for Portal 2 so you don't have to worry about that. There are a total of 29 achievements for Single Player worth 475. Out of the 29 achievements, there are 14 story related achievements worth 185 and 15 missable achievements worth 290. If you don't want to miss any achievements in Single Player then click here for a list of all missable achievements in obtainable order with a video and written explanation for each achievement.

  • Pturretdactyl
  • Final Transmission
  • Drop Box
  • Preservation of Mass
  • Overclocker
  • Good Listener
  • No Hard Feelings
  • Scanned Alone
  • Door Prize
  • Schrodinger's Catch
  • Ship Overboard
  • Portrait of a Lady
  • You Made Your Point
  • Smash TV
  • Pit Boss

You can use the guide below but the achievements are not ordered in obtainable order, so that will make it harder to keep track of when you are going for a certain achievement in a specific level. There are no achievements in Single Player that are carried throughout the campaign so if you do miss any achievements you can use Chapter Select. To use Chapter Select you must choose New Game.

Step 2: Playthrough on Co-Op:
You will most likely want to find a friend who is good for playing through Co-op instead of searching for a stranger. There is a total of 21 achievements in Co-op worth 525. Out of the 21 achievements, there are 6 Co-Op story related achievements worth 155 and 15 missable achievements worth 370. All but two Co-Op achievements can be earned offline via Split-screen. The 2 achievements that have to be online are "Friends With Benefits" and "Professor Portal". If you don't want to miss any achievements in Co-Op then click here for a list of all missable achievements in obtainable order with a video and written explanation for each achievement.

  • Narbacular Drop
  • Asking for Trouble
  • Rock Portal Scissors
  • Triple Crown
  • Iron Grip
  • Empty Gesture
  • Portal Conservation Society
  • Four Ring Circus
  • Can't Touch This
  • Friends List With Benefit
  • Air Show
  • Still Alive
  • Party of Three
  • Gesticul
  • Professor Portal

There is one achievement in Co-Op that is carried throughout the Co-Op Campaign. The achievement is Asking for Trouble. You have to taunt GLaDOS in front of a camera once in each course (not chamber) so make sure you don't miss that. If you do miss it you can replay any chamber in that course that has a camera and taunt it. If you miss any missable achievements you can go back to the Hub and go to the required course. When you enter the door of the Course there is a wall that disappears and shows you the Chamber that you will start on. Use the arrow keys to choose the chamber you want to start on. If you need to find someone to play Co-op with use this thread . "Professor Portal" cannot be obtained until you complete every course in Co-op Campaign, meaning you have to have unlocked "You Saved Science" first.

"Professor Portal" requires you to complete Co-Op Campaign and then play the Calibration Course (which can be selected by pressing start in the Hub and choosing Calibration Course) with a friend online who has never played Co-Op before. You may have to make another gold account for this or find someone who has never played Co-Op before.

Clean Up (Single Player and Co-op):
Once you have finished Single Player and Co-op it is time to rack up any achievements that you may have missed. If you have missed any achievements for Single Player you can use Chapter Select via New Game  from the main menu. If you missed any achievements for Co-Op you can go to the Hub and choose any Course and Chamber you want by using the arrow keys.

Conclusion:
After hours and hours of challenges and laughs you should have 1000 now! This game is not too hard to 1000 if you know what you are doing and have a friend who is good at the game. If you follow the Roadmap and Achievement Guide you should have no problem getting 1000. Portal 2 is a very fun and hilarious game that is worth playing and worth every achievement point!

There are 50 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Show that pit who's boss

This can be gained in Chapter 9 – Chamber 17.

Wheatley tricks you as you enter this chamber and hit the launch pad. When you finally land on the platform surrounded by his death trap, aim and shoot a portal on the wall up ahead past him and then when the conversion gel hits you, put a portal under your feet.

Now that you're on the walkway, start to walk away from Wheatley. He'll then ask you to come back and jump in the pit below. Doing so, and killing yourself will net you the achievement.

  • Break the rules in Test Chamber 07

This can be gained in Chapter 2 – Test Chamber 7.

This one is a lot easier than is seems but you would miss it without knowing you could do it. Play the chamber as normal up until the point of walking through the exit door.

The disintegration field on the door is broken, so head through it and place a portal on the wall on the other side of it. Now head back into the main chamber and put another portal on another passable wall. Now pick the cube up, walk through it and head to the lift for the achievement to unlock.

  • Use an Aerial Faith Plate to launch a turret

    (9)

This, Final Transmission, and Drop Box can be gained in Chapter 2 - Advanced Aerial Faith Plate Test Chamber 6. Read ahead a bit, so you don't make any mistakes or miss them.

When you get to this chamber, play through it until you come to the switch on the other side and make sure both your portals are still on the inclined slabs. Now press it once and the tube back where you started will shoot out loads of junk. Wait for it all to settle around the chamber, near you or down below behind you and then look for the turret.

Once you've found it, and if you can from your current position, pick it up and make 2 portals so you head back to the start. Head over to the launch pad with the turret in hand and drop it on it.

  • Lunacy

    20

    That just happened

This achievement is story related and is not missable. It unlocks during Chapter 9.

  • Place a cube on a button without touching the cube

    (38)

This is just after Pturretdactyl. If you look to the left corner you'll see the button you need to get the cube onto. Look above it and place a portal on the ceiling slab. Now put a portal of the opposite colour on the first inclined slab.

Push the button again, the cube will be released and will now land on the button without you ever touching it.

  • Complete Test Chamber 10 in 70 seconds

This achievement is easier than it sounds. The best way to do this is to practice the course over and over until you know it off by heart and complete it as fast as you can. Or you can watch the video on how to do this.

  • Save a turret from redemption

This can be gained in Chapter 5.

During this chapter you'll come to a part with 2 conveyor belts which are the full of dead turrets. Its on the second one where you'll find the 'not so dead' one.

Make your way from the first belt across to the second and work your way down. You'll notice the turret as it still has a flashing laser light. When it gets close, simply pick it up to unlock the achievement.

  • Catch a blue-painted box before it touches the ground

This can be gained in Chapter 6.

    Note: Save before attempting this

You will enter a room and there will be a giant glass box with a cube in it. There is also a red button right beside it. You will have to put the repulsion gel on the cube and then the cube will bounce against the glass. Once it breaks though catch the cube before if touches the ground. The cube can bounce against the walls.

    Alternative way:
When you cover the cube with the repulsion gel and hear it cracking the glass, shoot a portal under the water so it washes the repulsion gel off and the cube stops bouncing around. Keep repeating this until at least 1 glass wall breaks. There are 8 in total. When a glass wall is broken go to the side it is broken on. Now use your portals to put some repulsion gel near that side so you can bounce into the glass box. Now grab the cube and the achievement will unlock. Even if it is not painted blue.

Refer to the videos below for visual examples of both methods.

  • Discover the missing experiment

This can be gained in Chapter 6.

Just after the hidden metal door mentioned in Door Prize, walk and follow the corridor all the way to the end and walk through the blasted open door to the right. Once you're in the new area, walk down the walkway to your left and as soon as you get to the gate the achievement will unlock.

  • Find the hidden signal in one of the Rat Man's dens

This can be gained in Chapter 2 - Test Chamber 6.

When you make your way across to the button, press the button and GLaDOS will dump some garbage instead of a cube. The Garbage will come towards you (as long as you keep your two portals on the angled platforms). Stand in front of the garbage so it hits you. Shoot a portal to where you started and grab the Radio. Now look at where the Angle platforms are where you need to shoot the portals to get to the button you. If you look up will see that you can shoot your portal on the wall to the left of the angled platforms. Shoot a portal as far as you can to the right. Now shoot another portal on the Angled Platform CLOSEST to you. Use the Aerial Faith plates and you will be launched into a secret room. Go to the desk and place the radio on the desk. Stay in that room for a bit and the achievement will unlock.

You can see where the Secret room is if you stand beside the button and look at the angled platforms. Look to the right and up a little and you will see a broken window which leads to the secret room.

  • Take GLaDOS' escape advice

This can be gained in Chapter 5's escape.

While escaping GlaDOS with Wheatley, you'll come to a part where she'll reveal the 'last test chamber' and a light bridge will form. Instead of going right and following Wheatly, take the left route and into the 'last chamber'.

Once inside you'll be confronted by a nice surprise and the achievement will unlock.

  • Stand in a defective turret detector

This can be gained in Chapter 5.

A little further into the chapter, you'll come across a turret scanner. Once you've made your way into the control room with Wheatley, let the scene play out until he's smashed the glass. Now put a portal on the inside of the booth and one outside.

Enter it, walk to the turret and lift it off. Now walk into the space where the turret was and let the scanner scan you for the achievement to unlock.

This achievement is story related and is not missable. It unlocks during Chapter 7.

  • After completing co-op, complete Calibration Course online with a friend who hasn’t played before

First you must complete Co-op. So you have to beat all 5 courses with a friend offline or online. After you have done that, you must complete Calibration Course with another friend online who has not played Co-op yet. It is fine if they have played Single Player, they just can't have played Co-op. You can choose Calibration Course in the Hub by pressing start. Calibration Course is the Intro and Training Course for Co-op. If you want more information click here. If you're having trouble finding a partner for the achievement, post in the Achievement Trading Thread here.

  • Perform 2 aerial gestures before touching the ground in co-op

    (6)

There are numerous ways to do this. You can do this with the Excursion Tunnel which is by far the easiest. You just sit in the blue gravitational tunnel and do 2 aerial gestures. Or you can lay a portal directly below you and one right above you and keep falling through them and do 2 aerial gestures while your falling. You can also lay two portals on the ground and jump into one from a decent height and just go back and fourth between them. To do an aerial gesture press

  • Complete Chamber 3 in the Hard-Light Surfaces co-op course using only 5 total portal placements

    (29)

This can be gained in Course 3 - Chamber 3

This achievement requires perfection. You can only use a total of 5 portals. Have one person only use the portals. You will have to lay 3 portals in the first room. Follow the directions of what portals to use so you don't make a mistake. The first portal () will be place against the wall to the left in the beginning of the course. If you walk up to the edge and look straight, The second portal () you want to place will be on the left wall out in the distance. You will see two rectangles where you can place your portals on. You will want to place your second portal on the farther one, right in the middle so it lines up with where the ball will drop out of.

Once you have those two portals placed, have the other player walk slowly through the portal so he is halfway through each one. This player will now want to fall on the Hard-Light Bridge below him. He can die as many times as he wants. When he has done that, the other player will want to walk through his portal so he is halfway through as well. He will now was to place his third portal () on the wall where the Hard-Light Bridge is touching. If done correctly you will now be standing on the Hard-Light Bridge. Have the person below who is near the button press the button. The person above will catch the ball and but it in the spot where the ball goes. Make sure you don't walk through the door with the shield until your partner gets there.

In the next area you will only have 2 portal placements left. The person who is placing the portals, walk towards the Aerial Faith Plate. Now line yourself up with it. Go as far as you can to the right (against the wall) and as close as you can against the water without falling in. Now look straight up and you will see a long rectangle you can place portals on and within that long rectangle are a bunch of rectangle squares. Place a portal () on the second square to the right, right in the middle. Now place your other portal () on the wall the Hard-Light Bridge is touching. Now you will have the Bridge on an angle straight in front of the Aerial faith plate. This next part applies to both people, but the person with the portal placements has to do this first try. The other player can attempt this as much as he wants.

Line yourself straight with the Aerial Faith Plate. If you look down you will see a line you can line yourself up with. Now do a 90 degree turn to the right. Now you want to move to the left towards the Aerial Faith plate. Right when you touch the Aerial Faith Plate hold forward and you will be launched towards the angled Hard-Light Bridge and bounce towards the door. The achievement will unlock once both people have done this.

  • Drop your co-op partner in goo while they are gesturing by removing the bridge under them

    (6)

This can be gained in Course 3 – Test Chamber 1 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

As soon as you start this chamber you'll see the light-bridge. Place a portal on the wall at the other end then one up above so it goes over the goo to your right. Then have you partner jump on and make their way across it until they're above the goo gap.

Now have them make a gesture and while doing so, place your portal in a different location on the wall so the light-bridge is moved from under their feet, thus making them fall to their death.

  • Find the hidden companion cube in co-op test chamber

    (27)

This can be gained in Course 4 – Excursion Funnels Chamber 9 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

This is pretty much at the end of the 9th chamber. Once you make your way through the last checkpoint gate use the Excursion Funnel to get across the first gap and make sure your partner blocks the turrets. Take the funnel to the end and look down to your right for a place to put another portal to carry on your journey.

Place the portal and fall. As you enter the new area, you'll see a walkway to the left and a office type building to the right and then the gap you're going through inbetween them. Just before you reach the office, look left and re-direct the funnel so that you're now heading right along it.

Just stay in the funnel and keep looking along the same wall as the office. A wall will open which will reveal the cube and the achievement will unlock.

  • Place a portal under your co-op partner while they are gesturing

    (16)

This can gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

To preform any gesture, simple press :udpad:and use the to to select what gesture you want to do.

This can be done as soon as you're heading to the first course. While you walk along the platform towards the door to the left you'll see a portal slab on the floor in the corner. Have your partner wait here over the slab.

Now head up and go through the door. Look to the right and you'll see another portal wall. Place a portal here and head back to your partner. Have them pull a 'wave' gesture and as soon as they do, put the opposite portal under their feet and the achievement will unlock.

  • Taunt GLaDOS in front of a camera in each of the five co-op courses

    (19)

This can gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

The first glimpse of what you need to do for this is at the end of the test chambers. When you reach the end you'll go into camera view of what GLaDOS is seeing. This is what you need to do in each of the 5 courses.

Just get in front of a camera and do any gesture you see fit. As long as it goes into the camera view it counts.

  • Win 3 co-op games of rock-paper-scissors in a row

    (26)

This can be gained in Course 1 – Team Building Test Chamber 4 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

First off you can only unlock the achievement if you initiate the gesture! You'll unlock this gesture when you start chamber 4. Now just face one another and choose the Rock, Paper & Scissors gesture on the right. You need to win 3 in a row and its all down to luck.

If your guy cheers and jumps around then its a win, if he puts his head in his hands its a loss and if both of them shake their heads is a draw which does not count as a loss or win. See below for a little trick on how to get it faster.

The game seems to cheat you out a lot when you reach 2 wins and the 3rd is always a loss. As stated above you must initiate the gesture for it to unlock BUT its does not matter when! I noticed that when your partner did the gesture, you would get 2 wins in a row most of the time!

So have you partner initiate the gesture, let your guy get 2 wins, then you initiate the next one for the 3rd win in a row. You now have a higher chance on winning 3 in a row doing it this way instead of you constantly doing the gesture.

  • While playing co-op, hug 3 different people on your friends list

This has to be gained over XBL as split-screen does not count.

You'll first need to make sure the person is on your friends list and that when you go to hug them, you're in your game. You'll also need to make sure you've passed or got to Course 3 - Hard-Light Surfaces Chamber 8 as this is where you unlock the hug gesture.

Now simply invite your friend into your game and use the hug gesture. Repeat 2 more times and the achievement will unlock.

  • Enter 4 different portals without touching the ground in co-op

    (31)

This can be gained in Course 1 – Team Building Test Chamber 1 or Course 3 - Hard-Light Surfaces Chamber 5 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

In the room with the 2 buttons is where you'll be preforming this. You'll want to partner to place his 2 portals down on the floor, side by side. Then you'll want to walk up and place one of your portals next to them.

Now look up and place your 2nd portal above your partners 2nd portal – so the middle one in the line. Now jump into your portal so that you come out of the ceiling, land in your partners 2nd portal and come out the first one. As you come out the first one, make sure you look up at at ceiling and as you exit place you second portal again, so you come out of your original one.

  • Solve 3 co-op chambers in the Mass and Velocity course in under 60 seconds each

    (50)

This can be gained in Course 2 – Mass and Velocity Test Chambers 1-8 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

You'll most likely have to do these again, after you've completed them once. Learn what to do, and where to be at the right time and you should have no trouble getting through some of the chambers in under 60 seconds.

You don't have to do all 3 chambers in a row, you just need to complete 3 under 60 seconds. So if you fail one, just return to the HUB and start again. The best ones to do this on are chambers 2, 3 & 4.

  • Complete Course 4 with neither you nor your co-op partner dying

    (149)

This can be gained in Course 4 – Excursion Funnels Chamber 1-9 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

This will take some time. You'll most definitely have to go through this course to get all 9 chambers memorized so that you make no mistakes.

Just go into each one, learn how to play it and don't worry about deaths. Set up a plan of who does what in each course so you don't make any portal placement mistakes and you should be good to go. Please remember that this all has to be in one go and cannot be done by doing one chamber at a time then quitting out. So if you die at chamber 9, you'll need to do 1-8 all over again.

  • Dance in front of a turret blocked by a hard light bridge in co-op

    (3)

This can be gained in Course 3 – Hard-Light Surfaces Test Chambers 6 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

You can do this right at the start and it doesn't actually have to be a dance gesture (I used 'wave'). When you start look through the light-bridge and to your right and you'll see 4 turrets behind a bared cage.

Simply look at them and do a gesture and the achievement will unlock.

  • Break 11 test chamber monitors

This can be gained in Chapter 8.

You must smash 11 Test Chamber Monitors (there are only 11 that you can). There are multiple ways to smash the monitors. The ways to smash monitors are: flying into them yourself, using a cube to fly into them, using a turret to shoot them, and using the red laser to burn them.

    Test Chamber 1: 1 Monitor
    Test Chamber 2: 1 Monitor
    Test Chamber 3: 1 Monitor
    Test Chamber 4: 1 Monitor
    Test Chamber 5: 2 Monitors
    Test Chamber 6: 1 Monitor
    Test Chamber 11: 1 Monitor
    Test Chamber 12: 1 Monitor
    Test Chamber 15: 1 Monitor
    Test Chamber 16: 1 Monitor

  • Celebrate your cooperative calibration success

    (7)

This can gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

This is the first thing you do when you start up a new coop game. Its just some simple tests and chambers to introduce you to the coop features and gameplay.

Once you reach the end, both robots will high five and the achievement will unlock.

  • Complete all test chambers in the Team Building co-op course

    (1)

This can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

These are the first 6 chambers you play in this coop course. Simply go through them and once you reach the end of the 6th chamber, the achievement will unlock once you're back at the HUB.

  • Examine all the vitrified test chamber doors

For this achievement you'll need to find 6 doors which has the word 'VITRIFIED' painted across them in yellow and an intercom button on the wall next to them. Once you've found one of the doors, press the intercom button for it to count towards your total. Some don't have the 'VERTIFIED' on them, so look out for the intercom, but they're all in groups of 3.

The first 3 are once you've taken the lift up the tall metal rig, exit and u-turn to the left. You'll see across the gap a little walkway and 3 doors. Place a portal across the gap then one on the wall to your left. These doors across here

You may now want to refer to 'Master the Repulsion Gel' & 'Schrodinger's Catch' below before you look for the final 3 doors, seeing as they're later on in chapter 6 and there's still some achievements you'll need to get before you get to there. Once you've got them, see to the paragraph below.

The next 3 are in the same corridor you take to get the 'Ship Overboard' achievement. After a long way into the chapter 6 you'll exit through a door and be in an open area. If you look across the area you'll see a glass building with a banner saying 'CONTROL ROOM' across it in yellow.

Make your way up and in there and look in the left corner behind a cabinet. You'll come across hidden metal door which will automatically open as you get near. Walk through it and you'll see the remaining 3 doors and their intercoms.

  • Find a hidden portrait

This can be gained in Chapter 7.

Once you've cleared the first Propulsion Gel room and walked through the door, head along the cat walk but stop a bit short and you'll notice a locked gate to your left. Now carry on down the walk way until the metal plates break up revealing a gap and wall at the top of the stairs.

Portal the wall and then put a portal on the wall to your right. Walkthrough, and head right into the office. The portrait is on your right.

  • Refuse to solve the first test in Chapter 8

This can be gained in Chapter 8.

After you've put the moving cube on the button and confronted Wheatley, you'll then make your way along a walkway then up a lift. When you enter the next area you'll be in a new test chamber.

You'll see the button in front of you when you enter. Now don't touch it! Just stand still and let Wheatley talk and after a while he'll get annoyed, the screen will slightly shake and the achievement will pop.

  • Complete all test chambers in all courses of co-op

    (81)

This can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

You'll have a total 39 chambers to complete across 5 chambers to unlock this achievement.

    Course 1 - Team Building Chambers 1–6
Course 2 - Mass and Velocity Chambers 1-8
    Course 3 - Hard-Light Surfaces Chambers 1-8
    Course 4 - Excursion Funnels Chambers 1-9
    Course 5 - Mobility Gels Chambers 1-8

  • Never lose a cube in Chamber 6 of the Mass and Velocity co-op course

    (18)

This can be gained in Course 2 – Mass and Velocity Test Chamber 6 and can be gained in either split-screen or over XBL.

This chamber is made up of 2 rooms. The first has a cube in it but you can't/shouldn't lose it. The next room is where timing is everything. Place a portal on the hanging slab above the entrance and then another on the incline one across the water to your side.

Now one of you use the launch pad to access the other side of the area and then get ready to use the launch pad next to the cube chute. Your partner should be at the start, ready to push the button to release the cube. What happens is, when its released it'll fall out and get sprung to the other end of the room near inclined portal but it won't go through it. That's the point when its that close that you have to grab it otherwise it'll be to high.

Hit the launch pad, and as you get about half way in the air, have your partner hit the switch. By the time you come out of the second portal, be ready to grab the cube right away. This all comes down to timing, so if you miss it and it falls into the water or its too high up for you to grab, then you can simply restart the chamber later on from the menu.
